STEP INTO A WORLD OF WARMTH, PEACE AND TRANQUILITY OFF GRID IN GAMBIA

Mandina River Lodges

Mandina River Lodge is a world apart, a bird-watcher’s paradise, unique both in location and construction, with just nine well-spaced, comfortable lodges and a huge pool where bee-eaters and kingfishers splash down to cool off in the heat of the afternoon.

About three kilometres from the main highway along an unmade track, it is set on the banks of a tidal, saltwater creek and surrounded by forest, with a combination of individual buildings and walkways, some rustic and others verging on fantasy.
Mandina offers beauty, privacy, peace and tranquillity (no WiFi or TV) away from the hustle and bustle of the beach resorts and the outside world. For this reason, plus those of safety, this is a holiday for adults only (minimum age 14).
Our resident, English-speaking guides will take guests on forest walks and canoe trips to see baboons, monkeys, monitor lizards, (maybe) crocodiles, and especially the vast variety of birds in the immediate vicinity, as well as introducing people to local village life or the colourful crush of the market town of Brikama.
There are a number of half or full-day excursions, both specialist birdwatching with our excellent guides or just visiting the coastal tourist areas, which can be booked at any time during a stay at Mandina.

There are no shops or restaurants in the vicinity, so we only take guests on a half-board basis.

“Mandina is a little piece of paradise. When I woke up in the stained glass glow of one of the jungle lodges, listening to the dawn chorus, I decided that this was my favourite room on earth.” - Chris Packham
